A push along mesh drum spreader in powder coated steel, with a T handle and a 2.7 cubic foot basket, for compost, manure and top dressing.

Compost and manure arrive in clumps, and clumps do not spread. This is a steel mesh drum that rolls: as you push it, the material tumbles inside, breaks up and falls through the mesh at an even rate.

It handles compost, manure, peat moss and top dressing mixes, which is the job a granular spreader cannot do. Steel throughout with a powder coated finish, and a T handle so you can pull it back over a patch you want to go again.

Top dressing a lawn by barrow and shovel is where most of the unevenness comes from. You tip a heap, spread it, and the middle of the heap is always thicker than the edges.

A tumbling drum meters the material out instead, so what lands on the lawn is closer to a consistent depth before you touch it with a levelling rake.

It also breaks the clumps, which matters with anything that has been stored damp. A clump left on a lawn kills the grass under it.
